Thomas C. Cowan

Thomas C. Cowan is a graduate of The University of the South (B.A., 1974) and Tulane University (J.D., 1977). He is a member of the Bars of Louisiana (1977) and Texas (1994) and is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and The Maritime Law Association.
Tom practices in the areas of professional liability and
casualty law. He began his litigation career in the New
Orleans District Attorney's office, where he prosecuted
more than forty jury trials. Since 1980, Tom has practiced in
the area of general tort defense including trials in state and
federal courts in the fields of maritime, products liability,
medical malpractice and transportation law. Tom's practice in
the field of products liability ranges from medical devices to
hay-balers. In the field of health care, he has defended
long-term care facilities, emergency medicine physicians,
psychiatrists, nurses, physical therapists, internists and other
specialists. He has also defended numerous premises liability
cases, construction companies and trucking companies. He has lectured on various
health care topics and products liability matters.
Tom has drafted several bills in support of tort reform in the
healthcare/long-term care industry and provided related
testimony before numerous legislative committees. He has
also drafted by-laws for healthcare institutions and served as
both counsel and mediator for hospitals regarding interdisciplinary disputes.

J. Roslyn Lemmon

J. Roslyn Lemmon is a graduate of
Loyola University (B.A., 1986; J.D.
1989). Following graduation, Roslyn
served as a judicial clerk at the Court of
Appeal, Fourth Circuit, State of
Louisiana. She is a member of the
Louisiana State Bar Association (1990),
Texas Bar Association (1998), American
Bar Association, New Orleans Bar
Association, New Orleans Association
of Defense Counsel, The Inns of Court for The New Orleans
Bar Association, St. Charles Parish Bar Association, The
American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and The
Louisiana Nursing Home Association.
Roslyn's practice areas include civil litigation involving long-term
care liability, premises liability, products liability, automobile
liability, medical devices, medical malpractice, construction industry
liability, state and federal workers' compensation, maritime law and
employment law. She also serves as insurance company coverage counsel.
Roslyn has devoted a substantial portion of her practice to the defense
of class action litigation involving breast implants, bone screws,
explosions at petrol-chemical plants and long-term care. She has
lectured in the fields of medical malpractice, nursing malpractice,
nursing home litigation and workers' compensation.
Roslyn is the author of several chapters in Nursing Home Litigation:
Pretrial Practice and Trials , 2nd Edition and has successfully
represented clients in state and federal courts throughout Louisiana.

Philip E. Reso

Philip E. Reso is a graduate of Loyola
University (B.A., 1989; J.D. 1993).
Philip is a member of the Louisiana State
Bar Association, Louisiana Association
of Defense Counsel, New Orleans
Association of Defense Counsel, New
Orleans Bar Association, and the
Federal Bar Association. Following
graduation from law school, Philip
served as a judicial law clerk for the 24th Judicial District
Court for the Parish of Jefferson Division. He also served as
an Assistant District Attorney for the Parish of Orleans
where he prosecuted many felony bench and jury trials.
Philip's civil litigation background includes automotive
liability, premises liability, and worker's compensation. More

orthopedic surgeons and dentists.

Leah Taschek

Leah Taschek is a graduate of Tulane University (B.A., 2004) and Loyola University College of Law (J.D., 2007). She is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the St. Charles Parish Bar Association. Leah's practice has focused on medical malpractice defense with an emphasis on hospital liability. She has also gained considerable experience in hospital emergency preparedness through her representationof several local hospitals in connection with Hurricane Katrina-related claims. Darilyn E. Schieffler - Nurse Paralegal

Darilyn Schieffler, R.N.C., L.N.C.C., is a graduate of Charity Hospital School of Nursing (1971) and College of St. Francis (B.S., 1993). Following graduation from nursing school, she worked at Charity Hospital in the Pediatric Emergency Department and West Jefferson General Hospital in the Obstetrical Neonatal Unit as a staff nurse. As nurse manager at Jo-Ellen Smith General Hospital, she developed expertise in the areas of quality improvement, policies and procedures, standards of care, and JCAHO accreditation. She continued her nursing career in the neonatal unit for thirty-seven years.
Darilyn has been a legal nurse consultant since 1990. Her primary areas of practice include medical malpractice, long-term care litigation, and toxic tort litigation involving chemical exposure. Her responsibilities include medical record organization, review, summary and translation, identification of potential areas of liability, locating and interviewing fact and expert witnesses, conducting medical research to identify current standards of practice, and providing litigation support.
